10:37 New development mechanisms draw 1.325 trln-ruble investment in Far East – Galushka
VLADIVOSTOK. Jan 12 (Interfax) – New development mechanisms have drawn 1.325 trillion rubles of investment in the Russian Far East, Far East Development Minister Alexander Galushka said.

“The sum of 1.3 trillion stands for 475 investment projects. These are new plants, factories, infrastructures, and mining and processing complexes to be ready in the Far East by 2025. They will create 80,000 jobs,” Galushka said at the State Duma’s Government Hour on Wednesday.

Importantly, the new investments help diversify the economic structure of the Far East, as 73% of those projects are unrelated to the mining of mineral resources. These are processing plants, logistics, agriculture and tourism, he said.

Galushka mentioned rapid development territories, porto franco Vladivostok, and infrastructural and financial support to investment projects as new development instruments applied in the macro-region.

Twenty-five plants were started up in the Khabarovsk and Primorye territories, the Amur region, Sakhalin and Yakutia in 2016 by means of the new instruments. “We understand that this is only the first stage. Fifty new plants will be started up in 2017, and over 280 plants will become operational within the next three years to create 34,000 jobs,” the Far East Development Ministry quoted Galushka as saying.

MOSCOW. Jan 12 (Interfax) – The Kremlin refrained from commenting on Ukrainian parliamentarian Nadiya Savchenko’s information on the number of Russians captured in Donbas but vowed to provide legal assistance to them.

“I don’t have details, and therefore this question is obviously not for me,” Russian presidential press secretary Dmitry Peskov told journalists when asked whether he could confirm Savchenko’s statement that more than 100 Russian citizens are being held in Ukrainian prisons.

Asked who in his view could provide more detailed information on the matter, Peskov suggested that the Foreign Ministry should be addressed for comments.

Asked what the Russian government is doing to have its citizens released, Peskov replied, “When the matter concerns Russian citizens in need of legal protection, such assistance is provided to them.”

Savchenko posted what she claimed to be an updated list of 101 Russian servicemen and civilians placed in Ukrainian jails in 2014-2016 on her Facebook account on January 11. She said six of these people had been freed, one was listed as dead, 42 were being searched for by the self-proclaimed Donetsk People’s Republic (DPR) and three by the self-proclaimed Luhansk People’s Republic (LPR).

09:31 Baku accuses Armenian army of 50 truce breaches
BAKU. Jan 13 (Interfax) – The Armenian military committed 50 truce violations on the contact line with the Azerbaijani armed forces in the past day, the press service of Azerbaijan’s Defense Ministry said on Friday.

“Armed units of Armenia violated the ceasefire regime at different sectors of the frontline a total of 50 times in the past 24-hour period using large-caliber machineguns,” the Defense Ministry said.

Gunfire was coming “both from the territory of Armenia itself and from the occupied lands of Azerbaijan,” it said.

A ceasefire between Armenia and the Nagorno-Karabakh self-proclaimed republic for the one part and Azerbaijan for the other part was established in May 1994. The OSCE assisted by the personal representative of the OSCE chairperson-in-office arranges regular monitoring trips to the frontline to verify the conflicting sides’ compliance with the truce.

Tensions in the Karabakh conflict zone abruptly escalated in the small hours of April 2, 2016, and hostilities involving aircraft and artillery erupted. The sides traded accusations of breaching the truce on the contact line. They said the opposite side suffered heavy casualties and claimed minor casualties of their own.

It was announced in Baku and Stepanakert, the Nagorno-Karabakh capital, on April 5, 2016, that the sides had agreed to cease fire in the Karabakh conflict zone. Mutual accusations of truce breaches have been made on a daily basis since then.
